The End of the World as We Know It-If Only: James Duval Continuum Motion Pictures

The End of the World As We Know It. If only.

James Duval Continuum Motion Pictures: Today the world was supposed to end by many peoples interpretation of the Mayan Calendar, and well as many of you noticed, it did not happen. So like us you are stuck with some assholes out there who do nothing but try to make your life worse. Maybe they are bill collectors, or neighbors, for us in the film business it’s the guy you met and you thought was cool.

Over the years we have helped many people get their first projects done. We have often taken great pride in this. Yet at times events occur that make you go, “do I want to know anyone else.” Often there is a reason people have not made it before. The problem is you discover why somewhere in production or post. Now, this is not to say that some people have legitimate frustrations, post can take a long time. Every movie is different. You just can’t edit it. You have to find the right editor and the right vision, and that is just the reality of postproduction. Anne Hall and Pulp Fiction are films that well took great editors.  On the indie side of things, it is just a long journey in finding a good editor. Some get this, other do not. The ones, who get it, sit quietly for the most part. Oh, they will yell at you or whisper in your ear their frustration and doubts, but they get it. Others on the other hand will see it as a betrayal, failure to do, etc… And they will not sit quietly as their film reaches the best conclusion, even though they have never done this before. No they will speak, write and chatter to the world like dying birds, squawking their mothers lies.

Now we have had to deal with this many times, and if you are making it in the film industry so have you. Actors you have replaced will write shit and say shit on the Internet. Directors you have tried to help will some how make you responsible for their dream, even though since working with you they have done nothing. Yet somehow the movie they messed up, and you are trying to fix will be your fault.

Being a producer, you volunteer for the abuse, this is why Producers probably get Best Picture in various awards shows. If you are making it as a producer and climbing out of the indie world, just know that other producer get it when people say something about you.

Continuum Pictures Logo Now, in our modern age, and please note a Mayan Apocalypse would have cured this, there is a definite no responsibility for what you post issue. Even with the latest tragedy in Connecticut, people abused the Internet and the suffering of those victims families and community. The Internet is like a loaded gun handed to every child and every childish adult. They can say things because well supposedly the constitution says they can.

My Company and I have had our share of stalkers and crap talkers. We even know their names. They should not check their email at the same location they post crap. Now we can pursue or we can create and leave them behind. This is the choice for many of you. Yes some people will believe the crap written or worse get scared and make coward’s choices. But in the end you have to believe in what you are doing.  We have a stack of movies and three films coming out in theaters that prove we know what we are doing. What do they have, just what they write.  You must never give power to those who would black mail you and besmirch your name. You must create and show the world you can do it.

We live in an age where what people post often drive the victims of their posting to harm themselves. We have seen this in the news also. It is tragic. It often seems we live in a world of fools. I have lost, “friends” because of what others say, but I have gained more.

In 2013 we march forward and I will blame my Mayan calendar for the idiots, stalkers and fools that still trail our success.  I am proud of my team, and those who don’t get it sadden me. Making movies is not easy. It is hard at the studio level and harder on the indie level.

I hope in 2013 we will still feel the bravery it takes to work with new people and to help them with their first projects. I look forward to creating and making the world better.

Shivers will be the first feature project to come to fruition while being on the Paramount Studios lot. It is the first of three films that were chosen in a deal closed in October 2011. This Vampire/Action feature will take the genre a new direction.
Danny Torres has been finalizing a page one rewrite of this concept, based on a screenplay written by James Duval. Production is currently scheduled to begin late January/early February. The project scheduled for this series of investments is I Love My Dog, a romance comedy also written by James Duval. A third action film will complete these series of investments.
May 2012 Continuum Pictures will release Cider Springs Slaughter followed by Zombie Chronicles, Harvest Moon, Taught in Cold Blood, Mano a Mano, and Ocean Front Property.  Additionally Continuum Pictures will be releasing, a horror anthology and participating in numerous feature co-productions.

As Cider Springs Slaughter (formerly The Absents) begins its roll out, Continuum Pictures Studios now located on the Parmount lot, is gearing up for its next feature film Shivers. This vampire/action feature is to be directed by both Danny Torres, CEO of Continuum Pictures Studios, and Jason Durdon, CEO of Filmplane Entertainment.

Danny Torres CEO Continuum Pictures

Danny and Jason have been working together since the inception of Cider Springs Slaughter. They first met on a William Branden Blinn production, Thirteen or So Minutes, that went on to win in festival and play in many festivals around the world. Since that first production as producers, they have had a unique ability to set ego aside and work together as shared visionaries.

Recently, they co-directed the Zombie film Sirens, which will be released in 2012 on a Zombie Compilation called Zombie Chronicles. This shared experience, brings a powerful for to the production of Shivers.

Production on Shivers will begin late January 2012. In October 2011 Danny Torres lead Continuum Pictures Studios through negotiations which ended with the financing of three features, with Shivers being the first of these production.

Shortly after the completion of shooting on Shivers, the Jason Durdon directed Cider Springs Slaughter will release on VOD and DVD. Check out the trailer included in this post.

Continuum Pictures and the Future – 2012 and Onward a Personal Perspective

The Future and Continuum Pictures – 2012 and Onward

Dir. Jason Durdon, Prod. Danny Torres

I always want to start these blogs out like a spy novel where you are never sure where the story is going to end up. For me this always seems more appropriate than a straightforward approach to explaining the journey. I always know who the good guys are and am almost always surprised who turns out to be the bad guys. There is always the internal struggle amongst the team as to which direction to go, and even though I don’t know how, the good guys seem to always end the novel, the winners.

Continuum Pictures journey has been much like that. Somehow even though we struggle to understand the why of the silly events of each day, it almost always adds up to a win. And when it does not, after a while we are grateful for the understanding that it is not always best to get what you want.
Last year (2011) was quite the year. As always we began it with great difficulty and impending doom. We were stuck in production and post, still trying to move into some business model that made sense. We had stuck to our business plan, as we always do and it seemed to be taking us forward, even if painfully.
We had accrued a few haters along the way as well. And an understanding about why some people even friends don’t make it. People seem to think this is supposed to be easy, or that their personal agendas are more important than the group agenda. Even the word “nice” had to be redefined for us. December further clarified this for us.
I personally learned that people do not understand silence, that seem to think it is a form of agreement, when it really is a form of  “I can’t really tell you what I think because my mother raised me not to say such mean things.” Hmmm
We had some casualties and some wounded that may or may not make it along the way. Friendship and trust are often put to trial within the film industry. It is a hard thing ro realize that you really don’t know people.
I have learned once again for the 500th time that people are fragile and scared, and most base their lives on these fears. Fear is the number one killer of careers, friendship and really all around trust. People forget that they are responsible for the knowledge in their heads. I have had to use the phrase, remember when we helped you – we are the good guys, we are not those people.
We live in an age where if it is written it must be true. We have forgotten that people say things, lie or just simply misrepresent for their own gain, or more sadly emotional satisfaction, even to their own destruction. I don’t know why, I think people have been trying to figure out that question a long time.  I think it is fear.
Continuum Pictures Studios for me represents a chance to work with people who still believe in their dreams, or are at least trying too.
2012 will be like any year since the beginning of our film journeys. It will be painful, hard and difficult, we will even sometimes pay to much on personal levels, but in the end we will end up further ahead.

I am grateful to team I work with and belong to. I am grateful to Danny Torres, CEO of Continuum Pictures, Stephan Langford and Robert Dudelson of Dream Factory, I am grateful to Paramount Studios for the opportunity and privilege of being on the lot. I am grateful to my family who allow me the time under difficult circumstances to pursue this journey and I am grateful to the entire Continuum Pictures team and our many friends who have taken the journey with us.
